Living With Tonkinese

Saffie, Simba Tia and Peppa

We currently have seven Tonkinese and they are all very talkative, lively, loving and very entertaining. They are playful and energetic, they all love to play with toys and all will play fetch with you. Tia is the one that loves to play this game the most and will go on fetching a ball and bringing it back to us for hours. If you come to a show Tia will be the cat with the blue ball in her pen. She loves them so much, well this month.

But they also love to have lots of cuddles and will always be in the same room as us. They like to know what we are doing and will follow us around every were. Peppa will go to the extreme by walking between our legs and rolling over our feet while we walk. Bless him.

If you are looking for fun with a bit of mischief then get your self a Siamese Variant Tonkinese you wont have a quiet life again. We Adore all of our Cat's, however Peppa is always in our mind, wondering what he has done, or what the others have encouraged him to do. However you can't go wrong with getting a Tonk or two of any type/colour/pattern they are just wonderful company. But please remember as a norm they are not good kept on there own. They do need other feline company as well as human company and as I have said they get on with most animals.

Tonkinese in General

The Tonkinese is a wonderful combination of the Burmese and the Siamese breeds. The breed loves human and animal contact. You will find that most Tonks will play fetch like a dog and if shown at an early age will walk quiet happily on a harness and lead. Walking them on a harness and lead and or giving them a cat run is far better than letting them roam free as they are a trusting breed. The Tonkinese is very happy at living a house cat life and as long as you provide them with company and toys, they will not miss the out side world.

Tonkinese do like there warmth of a night so do be prepared to share your bed at night.

Tonkinese Coat Types and Patterns

Tonkinese come in three coat types, Tonkinese coat pattern, Siamese Variant & Burmese Variant. At the moment the only coat type you will see on the show benches is the Tonkinese pattern. However you will find that people with the other two coat types will bring them out on exhibition.

The colours you can get a Tonkinese in are as follows

The first five colours come in tortie. Also they come in tabby and tortie tabby coat patterns. These coming in the three coat types and this makes a wide range of colours to choose from. Please bear in mind it may take some time to get a particular colour or type that you want. The only advise I can give is to go with an open mind and remember that the coats will take time to come through to there full colour and/or pattern. So please take regular pictures of your babies to see how they progress.
